Naxxar history
Naxxar is an ancient village in Malta. Most believe that the origin of the town come during the Bronze Age. The name Naxxar comes from a variety of different sources, depending on who you ask in Malta. In most events, the name surrounds some form of relation to Christianity. It appears as if the people of Naxxar were some of the first converts to Christianity. The local church was constructed in 1436 by Bishop De Mello. The current construction was built from 1616 and 1630 by Tommaso Dingli, one of the best architects of the era.
Travel to Naxxar
Other than the church above, many tourists who travel through Naxxar visit the Palazzo Parisio. The site is owned and lived in by the Baroness of Tabria whose family has lived there since the middle of the 19th century. The grounds are open all year round and available for events.
The Maltese International Trade Fair Grounds are all in Naxxar. The future site of the fairgrounds is ten minutes away in Ta?Qali, Malta. The fairgrounds are open year round and play host to a wide variety of exhibitions. The most visited event, of course, is the International Trade Fair, which most of the island of Malta visits during the two week celebration.
Naxxar is rare in Malta for the fact that it has public transportation. The bus is offered free of charge and links the outside of the town with the center. During the Summer, the bus also makes it out to Ghardia Bay.
